Athletic Training, M.S.A.T.
Minimum Totals for Graduation: 65 hours
The program is designed to prepare students to become Board of Certification (BOC) certified athletic trainers (ATC). Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), upon completion of this program and CMU's graduation requirements, students will be eligible to apply for the Board of Certification, Inc. (BOC) national certification examination for athletic trainers. Additional information regarding the athletic training program can be viewed at the program's website.
Admission Requirements, Retention & Termination Standards
To apply to the stand-alone, two-year M.S.A.T. program, students must have an earned bachelor's degree prior to beginning the M.S.A.T. graduate course work.
3+2 B.S.A.T./M.S.A.T program: Currently enrolled CMU undergraduate students only.
Admission Requirements
- A completed program application.
- Written professional recommendation.
- An overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- A prerequisite GPA of 3.0 or higher in identified courses (Nutrition, Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics/Kinesiology, Public/Community Health, and Introduction to Psychology).
- Completion of additional prerequisite courses with no grade below a 2 .0 (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Exercise Physiology, Developmental Psychology, and Statistics).
- Complete a minimum of 60 hours of practical experience with an athletic trainer.
- Admissions interview.
Retention Standards
- Students must continue to meet program retention criteria and Technical Standards to maintain status in the M.S.A.T. Consequences for non-compliance have been determined and could include probation, suspension, or dismissal from the Athletic Training Program.
- Maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA in the M.S.A.T.
- Maintain established professional standards as described in the AT Policies and Procedures Manual and the BOC, Inc. Standards of Professional Practice.
