Teaching Social Studies Grades 5-12 Major, B.S.Ed., Secondary Standard Certificate

Major Map

Admission Requirements, Retention & Termination Standards

Students must meet the following criteria:

  1. Students planning or considering a major in social studies education are urged to consult with an advisor as early as possible in their college career.
  2. EDU 107 must be completed with a B or higher.
  3. Students must adhere to the Teacher Candidate Dispositions set by the Education Preparation Program.
  4. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 must be earned in the Social Studies (5-12) major content courses.
  5. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 is required to complete the student teaching clinical experience
  6. All required coursework for the Social Studies (5-12) major must be completed prior to student teaching.
  7. Have a minimum of 36 credit hours at the 300 level or higher.
  8. Students must complete all required clinical hours for each individual course.

Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in all professional education courses (SSC 250, SSC 301WI, SSC 310, SSC 350WI, SSC 370, and SSC 400).
