Updates and Corrections to the 18-19 Paper Bulletin

General Information:

  • Page 4 - Administration was updated.
  • Page 15 - Authorization - Ontario information was updated.
  • Page 17 - Military and Veteran's Services - a reference to the Student Service Fee was added.
  • Page 20 - Military Drop/Withdrawal Refund Policy - This paragraph was added:
  • Military Tuition Assistance (TA) is awarded to a student under the assumption that the student will attend school for the entire period for which the assistance is awarded. When a student withdraws, the student may no longer be eligible for the full amount of TA funds originally awarded. To comply with the new Department of Defense policy, Central Michigan University will return any unearned TA funds on a prorate basis through at least the 60% portion of the period for which the funds were provided. TA funds are earned proportionally during an enrollment period, with unearned funds returned based upon when a student stops attending.
  • Page 43 - Tuition Info was updated.
  • Page 44 - Student Service Fee Information was added.
  • Page 45 - Resident Status Policy was updated.
  • Page 93 - Advanced Placement - Microeconomics - ECO 203 has been removed.
  • Page 97 - Graduation Requirements - The policy on two degrees has been editorially revised to reflect the Academic Senate's approval of some degrees to 120 hours.

  • Page 142-143 - Environmental Health and Safety Major - Electives - HSC 552 is now HSC 454.
  • Page 148 - Neuroscience Major - Under Electives I, BIO 554 should not be listed.
  • Page 171 - Finance Major - Electives - FIN 310 was added to list of exceptions that do not count toward this major.
  • Page 175 - International Business and Sustainable Development Minor - This minor is on hiatus and will not be accepting admissions into the program. Contact the Department of Management in the College of Business Administration for more information.
  • Page 181 - College of Communication and Fine Arts is now called College of the Arts and Media.
  • Page 182-184 - Art Major: Studio and Art Major: Graphic Arts on BFA; Art Major: Studio on BAA; and Arts History Major - Statement regarding ART 096 was changed to: It is mandatory that all Art Majors register for and complete four semesters of ART 096.
  • Page 185 - Art Minor - Electives should say "Select any ART courses except ART 114 or 126."
  • Page 187 – Cinema Studies Minor – In the Admissions, Retention & Termination section, the last item should say “BCA 101 or BCA 503WI.”

Course Descriptions:

  • ANT 451 has a new description as of Spring 2019: "History of anthropological theory and ongoing ethical challenges. Key theorists, concepts, and schools of thought. Contemporary developments."
  • ART 126 - new description (Summer 2019): To develop an aesthetic awareness, appreciation, and understanding of the visual arts through an introduction to media, formal analysis, and interpretation. This course cannot be applied to any Art Major or Minor. This course may be offered in an online format. May be offered as Writing Intensive. (University Program Group I-B: The Arts)
  • BIO 523 has a new title, hours, description, and prerequisites: BIO 523 Ecology and Systematics of Freshwater Algae 3(2-3) - Examination of the systematics and ecology of freshwater algae using a systems approach to identify native assemblages in wetlands, streams, lakes, and the Great Lakes. Prerequisites: BIO 212, 213 both with a C- or better; or BIO 218; or admission to the Biology M.S., Conservation Biology M.S., or Earth and Ecosystem Sciences Ph.D. program.
  • BIO 536 has new description and prerequisites: Study of cells and tissues that comprise human organ systems with emphasis on their integration and function using light microscopy. Prerequisites: BIO 212, 213 both with a C- or better; or BIO 390 or 392; or admission to the Biology M.S., Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology M.S., Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology Ph.D. program, or Earth and Ecosystem Sciences Ph.D. program.
  • BIO 575 has new prerequisites: Prerequisites: BIO 212, 213 with a C- or better; or graduate standing in a Master’s or Ph. D. program in the College of Science and Engineering.
  • BIO 576WI has a new title: Mammalian Cell Culture as of Spring 2019.
  • BLR 390 - new prerequisites: BLR 202 or 235; 56 semester hours completed; admission to professional Business Studies or listed on a signed major or minor.
  • BUS 503 has a new title: Applied Lean Six Sigma
  • CPS 497 has a new description and prerequisite: Open to students with permission of instructor. May be taken for credit more than once, total credit not to exceed 6 hours. Prerequisite: permission of instructor.
  • ECO 397 - has a new description and prerequisite: Experimental courses to cover topics of special interest not covered by courses in the regular curriculum. Prerequisite: Varies with topic and instructor.
  • EDU 310 has a new title: Educational Psychology for Secondary Teachers as of Spring 2019.
  • EDU 590 has new title, hours, remove cross listing with SPE 510, description, prerequisites: EDU 590 Foundations for Learning, Design, and Technology in Education 3(3-0) - Integration of technology in classroom instruction and management, with emphasis upon lesson design and evaluation of software, applications, and devices. This course may be offered in an online format. Prerequisites: EDU 290, junior standing; or graduate status.
  • EDU 595 has new title, hours, description, and prerequisites: EDU 595 Digital and Media Literacy for Educators 3(3-0) - The study of digital and media literacy research, theory, and practice focused specifically for those who are instructors in K-12 and higher education. This course may be offered in an online format. Prerequisites: EDU 290, junior standing; or graduate status.
  • ELI 198 has a new title and description: ELI 198 Freshman Composition for International Students 3(3-0) - Development of nonfiction writing for non-native English speakers. Students prepare a variety of texts by applying knowledge of composing processes, rhetorical strategies, and textual conventions. This course may be offered in an online format. Alternative to ENG 101 or ENG 103/198. Prerequisite: English Language Institute departmental approval.  (Summer 2019)
  • ENT 200 through 320 - Course descriptions on the PDF were revised to reflect curricular changes approved after the Bulletin went to press.
  • FIN 315 has new description and prerequisites: Provides students with basic knowledge about different investments and sources of information to enable them to make wiser investments and prepare to build portfolios. May be offered in online format. Prerequisites: ACC 250, 255; admission to Professional Business Studies or listed on a signed major or minor.
  • FMD 347 has new title, description, prerequisites: FMD 347 Digital Pattern Development and Virtual Fit 3(0-6) - Integrated design studio focused on complex design process through digital pattern development and 3D fit visualization. Continued focus on intensive design critiques and aesthetic development. Prerequisite: FMD 245.
  • FRN 101 description is changed to add online delivery format.
  • As of Spring 2019, the following HPS courses had a designator change to NUR: 300WI, 301, 302, 320, 321, 322, 323, 390, 400, 401, 499. (Nursing Program begins Fall 2019)
  • IET 279 has a new description: Explores resultants, static equilibrium in trusses, frames, beams, and machines. Includes centroids, mass moment of inertia, and systems involving friction and distributed loads.
  • MKT 431 has new prerequisites and approved for online delivery: MKT 255; 56 semester hours completed; admission to Professional Business Studies or listed on signed major or minor.
  • MKT 432 has new prerequisites and approved for online delivery: MKT 255; MKT 300 or 304; 56 semester hours completed; admission to Professional Business Studies or listed on signed major or minor.
  • PHY 578 has new hours and description: PHY 578 Experimental Physics 3(1-5) - Selected experiments utilizing the techniques of modern experimental physics. Writing Intensive. Prerequisites: PHY 277, PHY 322 or graduate standing in Physics. Pre/Co-requisites: PHY 332 or graduate standing in Physics. (Summer 2019)
  • PSC 347 has a new title: Europe and the European Union as of Spring 2019.
  • PSC 398 has a new description and prerequisite: Examines the role of public and nonprofit organizations in society. Covers special topics of interest not covered in existing courses. May be repeated when the content is not a duplication of a previous special topics offering. Prerequisite: permission of instructor. Hours were changed to 3-9(3-0)
  • PSC 513 has online delivery format added to description.
  • REL 305 has a new title and description: REL 305 Mysticism: Union with the Sacred 3(3-0) - Exploration of mystic experience, including consideration of its place in religious life, its modes of expression, and the major mystical figures in the world’s religions. May be offered as Writing Intensive. (Summer 2019)
  • SPE 323 has a new description: Intervention approaches to design positive classroom environments. Includes identification of behavioral/affective issues, social skills instruction, and proactive classroom management approaches. Grade of C+ or better required. This course may be offered in an online format. Prerequisites: SPE 126 with a grade of C or better; SPE 322 with a grade of C+ or better. Co-requisite(s): SPE 323 may be taken as a co- requisite with SPE 324.
  • SPE 510 is no longer cross-listed with EDU 590, description is changed: Students will study and practice the integration of technology in classroom instruction and management, with emphasis upon software evaluation and lesson design. This course is approved for offering in a distance learning format. Prerequisite: EDU 290 or graduate status.
  • New Courses (Spring 2019): CHM 514, 515, 556, 560, 569; GEO 332.
  • New Courses (Summer 2019): BIO 321WI; ENG 382.
  • ANT 388 - due to a glitch, this course was not downloaded to the paper bulletins for 17-18, 18-19, and 19-20.
  • PED 186 - is not identical to PES 186.
  • ART 235 - should say "A continuation of ART 231..."
  • HSC 212 - the correct title is Applied Anatomy and Kinesiology.
  • FIN 347 - the prerequisites were corrected to match the approved MCS.
