Creative Writing, Undergraduate Certificate

Minimum Totals for Graduation: 15 hours

This 15-credit-hour certificate is designed for degree-seeking students of any major and non-degree-seeking students who desire to gain greater competency in the writing of poetry, fiction, and/or creative nonfiction. It also prepares students to study creative writing at the graduate level.

15 hours chosen from the following:

Required Courses I (6 hours)

ENG 234WI	Introduction to Literary Analysis	3(3-0)
ENG 294WI	Introduction to Creative Writing	3(3-0)

Required Courses II (3-6 hours)

Students may focus in poetry, prose, or both by selecting 3-6 hours from the following:

ENG 301WI	Nonfiction Writing	3(3-0)
ENG 391WI	Creative Writing: Fiction	3(3-0)
ENG 392WI	Creative Writing: Poetry	3(3-0)

Required Courses III (3-6 hours)

Students may focus in poetry, prose, or both by selecting 3-6 hours from the following:

ENG 491WI	Advanced Fiction Writing	3-6(3-0)
ENG 492	Advanced Poetry Writing	3-6(3-0)
ENG 493	Creative Nonfiction	3-6(3-0)

Note: Take either ENG 491WI, ENG 492, or ENG 493; the selected course may be repeated up to 6 hours.

Total: 15 semester hours

Note: All creative writing courses have prerequisites.
