The Office of Study Abroad provides transformative global learning opportunities to CMU students that enhance their intercultural knowledge and competence, and prepare them for the global workforce. CMU students can:

  • Choose from over 150 approved study and internship programs in more than 50 countries;
  • Select a short-term, semester or year-long study or internship program;
  • Study a world language;
  • Take courses taught in English in countries around the world (i.e. Italy, Spain, Czech Republic, Japan, South Korea, Argentina, Morocco, South Africa and more!)
  • Work closely with advisors to ensure study abroad programs contribute to academic progress and on-time graduation.

    Students work with our experienced study abroad advisors to choose an appropriate study site that matches their budget and academic interests. All students participating in a CMU approved program will receive academic credit for courses completed and may know, in advance, what course credit will be awarded.

    All students in good standing at CMU are invited to apply!  Some programs may have a required minimum GPA. This information can be found on the program page on our website.

    Studying abroad does not have to be expensive! Students looking for affordable programs can choose from a variety of tuition exchange and low-cost programs offered around the world through CMU partners and affiliates. There are many  scholarships campuswide and nationwide available to help fund study abroad. The Office of Study Abroad offers scholarships each year and 90% of eligible applicants receive an award. Students participating in a CMU-approved study or internship program abroad may also continue to receive financial aid from CMU and may apply for additional funds through the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid to cover the study abroad program costs.

    Students are invited to attend our Annual Study Abroad Fair in September and make an appointment with a study abroad advisor during the first year at CMU to start planning for the life-changing learning adventure abroad!
